Meet the team: Tashae Lawson

In our latest company interview, we sat down with Tashae Lawson, Office Assistant, to find out more about what it is like at Minerva Private, where she is from and what she does for Minerva Private.

Where are you from?

Tashae: Originally I am from Jamaica. I was born in Montego Bay but grew up with my aunt and grandmother in Trelawny until I was 14. I moved to the Cayman Islands in 2013 to live with my father, where I completed my latter years of high school and my associate’s and bachelor’s degrees.

How did you start at Minerva?

Tashae: I started through Minerva Private’s internship program. I was an intern for a year as an Assistant Systems Administrator in the IT department. Then I joined the team as a full-time employee.

What do you do at Minerva?

Tashae: My role at Minerva is to oversee the management of the office and assist the team with all of our business lines. I handle everything from stationary to filing. I also continue from my days as an intern managing the IT day-to-day tasks in the office and handling aspects of the company’s marketing and website.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

Tashae: What I enjoy most about my job is that I get to be creative. I am surrounded every day by amazingly artistic people who help ensure that the graphics and wording encapsulate Minerva Cayman. I am an individual that likes a bit of spontaneity, and working at Minerva provides that and so much more, as every day presents a new adventure and new learning experiences that I take into other aspects of my life, like my academic and social life.

What is your personal philosophy?

Tashae: “You must train your mind so that your hands and feet follow”. Whatever you want to do or whomever you want to be, you must create an environment around you that allows that dream to flourish. Any dream will become a reality if you trust in yourself and your capabilities, continuously work hard and dedicate yourself to your craft.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of doing an internship at Minerva?

Tashae: My advice is to come prepared to learn. You must be punctual, organised, well presented and willing to try new things. I highly recommend being honest and transparent when going through the interview process. Doing internships has taught me the importance of not shutting down new experiences when they are presented. When I started at Minerva, I was solely in the IT department. Still, new opportunities opened up within the other business lines I wanted to try, leading me to my current position. With Minerva, the key to having a successful internship experience is understanding your strengths and communicating effectively with your team.
